Our History

Wasserstein & Co.was formed in January 2001, when the private equity team of Wasserstein Perella Group spun out to create an independent private equity firm. We manage approximately $2 billion of capital on behalf of institutional and individual investors, including public and corporate pension funds, foreign governmental entities, endowments and foundations, and high net worth individuals. We conduct our buyout activities through the U.S. Equity Partners family of funds. U.S. Equity Partners II was raised in 2002 and has to date invested approximately $515 million of equity capital, including co-investments. U.S. Equity Partners I was raised in 1997 and invested approximately $425 million of equity capital, including co-investments. At Wasserstein & Co., our team has completed in excess of 25 platform buyout investments and more than 75 related add-on acquisitions or divestitures, across a variety of industry sectors. Our senior team members have worked on hundreds of additional transactions throughout their careers. Consistent with our value-investment approach, as well as with our personal commitments to invest in all of the Firm’s transactions, we have tended to deploy capital during periods of economic stability and to harvest investments during periods of heightened market activity. As such, our track record reflects significant realization activities during the “LBO Bubble” of 2006 – 2008, whereas the bulk of our investments were made during prior periods and without reliance on overly aggressive leverage or financial structuring.
